Co-Chairs of the Civil Access Pilot Project Honored as a “Lawyer of the Year” by Law Week Colorado

January 17, 2012 - Sherman & Howard attorney Skip Netzorg and Denver District Judge Anne Frick were recently honored as "Lawyers of the Year" for their leadership of the Civil Access Pilot Project (CAPP), an initiative aimed at reducing the cost of litigation for parties to business cases and streamlining the discovery process.  CAPP, in coordination with the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System, drafted new state court rules, changing the paradigm from an "all you can eat" discovery model to a "get what you need" model, intended to reduce the time and money spent on business litigation and keep the cost of pre trail discovery proportionate to the amount at stake.

The major goals of the Pilot Project are to reduce disproportionate, intrusive and expensive discovery, and to provide better access to the courts for plaintiffs and defendants alike.

The pilot project went into effect on January 1, 2012 in Denver, Boulder, Jefferson, Gilpin, Adams and Arapahoe counties.  After a two year period, the IAALS will study the effects of the pilot.
