Combination to Provide Clients with Unparalleled
Real Estate Experience in Colorado
April 1, 2008
Sherman & Howard L.L.C., Denver’s oldest and fourth-largest law firm, announced today that it has combined with Wear, Travers & Perkins, PC, a leading 20-year, Vail-based law firm focusing on real estate development, common interest communities and general real estate law. The move brings a seventh office to Sherman & Howard’s existing operations in Colorado, Nevada and Arizona.
“We are pleased and excited to welcome the well established and premier real estate law firm of Wear, Travers & Perkins to our firm,” said Steven D. Miller, a Member of the Executive Committee at Sherman & Howard. “This combination reinforces our ability to provide clients with outstanding counsel in highly sophisticated real estate transactions. With this addition, we are able to offer a broader range of services and experience.”
Jim Wear, founder and President of Wear, Travers & Perkins, added, “In order to be more competitive in today’s environment, it was important that we align ourselves with a full-service organization whose experience extends beyond real estate law. Personal service is a hallmark of Wear, Travers & Perkins; Sherman & Howard shares this commitment and will also provide our clients with a depth of resources.”
The addition of Wear, Travers & Perkins’ attorneys brings Sherman & Howard’s current roster to more than 160. The firms have shared clients and served as co-counsel over the years and because of this successful relationship, Sherman & Howard took the opportunity to approach Wear, Travers & Perkins about combining the two firms.
“Sherman & Howard is thrilled to be joining forces with a firm whose level of work meets the highest standard in Colorado’s real estate marketplace,” commented Rebecca Fischer, who is a member of Sherman & Howard’s Business & Real Estate Department and the firm’s Executive Committee. “Clients from both firms will find our practice areas to be compatible and, in fact, complementary to one another. As a result of this combination, they will have access to a greater depth of services throughout the state.”
“We now have access to practice areas, experience and services - including tax, estate planning, securities law and complex business litigation - in many areas of the law that we previously were not able to offer our clients,” said Wear.
Typical clients of Wear, Travers and Perkins have included influential industry leaders in the resort real estate marketplace, including East West Partners, Slifer, Smith & Frampton Real Estate, Hines Highlands Limited Partnership, Broadmoor Development Company and the Telluride Ski and Golf Company.
“This new office provides us with additional excellent resources as well as a foothold in the market and the cache that comes with being in such a highly desirable community,” continued Miller. “We look forward to all of our clients taking advantage of the depth and scope of experience and services that this combination looks to undertake.”
Commenting on the transaction itself, Wear said, “We don’t anticipate that the combination of our firms will in any way interrupt the services and personal attention we provide our clients. We expect it to be seamless and transparent.”
